The Witness
A witness tells what they see and hear. For the early disciples they were to witness to the risen Jesus. They not only heard, but they saw him. We carry that witness as followers of Jesus.
We have both the testimony of the New Testament and our own experience of the risen Christ. Our witness is not our own, but we are infused with the power of the Holy Spirit!
The witness of the body of Christ confronts the powers of this age and calls people to repent and give their allegiance to the only King of the universe.
This witness was costly to those early followers of Jesus. It has also been costly for many who came after the early disciples.
I pray for our brothers and sisters who are living in places where their testimony is very costly. As our world becomes more secular, our witness will also become more costly.
This is the time for the light of Jesus Christ to shine in the darkness. Light attracts. My prayer is that we can become so close to our risen Lord that many will be attracted to the light.
Will you let the light of Christ shine in and through you? Let us hear the words of the Apostle Peter when he writes, “But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.
But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.”
(I Peter 3:15-16). Be prepared and may the Holy Spirit use you as a faithful witness.
