HISTORY

History

Eagle Rock Community Church has a rich heritage, going back to 1926 when Rev. Andrew Johnson sponsored evangelistic meetings in a tent across from the present church location.

The church thrived through the depression and WWII, expanding its property and starting churches in several other areas, including Burbank and Sunland, and a number of years later, La Crescenta.

Notable ministries in the 1940s:

  • A ladies group, Alpha Phee, began with the goal of sharing Christ and helping others.

  • Dynamic youth ministries challenged several young people to serve in ministry, including Pat and Russ Camp who went as missionaries to Ecuador, and Ruth Smith, who went to Japan.

The church continued to grow. New buildings were added, and then added on to again, creating a larger sanctuary, the offices and classrooms. The building volunteers’ faithfulness was a testimony to the neighborhood.

Notable ministries since the 1980s:

  • In 1984, local churches gathered to operate the Eagle Rock Christian Food Center out of ERCC.

  • In 1994, local Hispanics began services in the fellowship hall, as Iglesia Del Pacto. This congregation continues to thrive under Pastor Pablo Anabalon.

  • In the late 1990s through early 2000s, ERCC opened its doors on Monday evenings for the M.O.M. ministry, providing meals, games, crafts, and homework help to single moms and families in the neighborhood.

  • In 2010, ERCC began outreaches to the poor and homeless in collaboration with other local organizations, including Family Promise and a weekly meal ministry with Iglesia Del Pacto (see Ministries for more information).

Members of ERCC continue to find ways to serve the community, from caroling and pictures with Santa at Christmas, to children’s musicals, to building projects in Mexico, and to bringing meals to people in their homes
