Blessed are the Meek

Last week I covered the first four beatitudes of Jesus. The third one dealt will a pronouncement of blessing on the meek. People trip up on the idea of being meek.

They think of people that are “wimpy” or with no backbone. The “pushovers” is a good description of our current idea of being meek.

The good news is that even “pushovers” have the Kingdom of God available to them! But I believe meekness in this verse describes people that are not resisting God.

The proud resist God. They are the opposite of meekness. They do not allow God any “space” and therefore they have no room for the Kingdom to enter into their lives.

A meek person opens up space for God and as they learn to live in the Kingdom, the space expands into relationships, their world and ultimately in the new age; the refined earth of eternity!

Jesus was meek, but he was also one who had a backbone. He resisted the enemy, sin and those who opposed the things of God.

Christian history is filled with truly meek people who were strong in their faith and yet had room for God to be very present. As we yield ourselves to God,

He is able to move in and use us for His glory. May we be a people of faith that will give God all the room He needs to do His will in and through us!
