What Do We Choose?
What do we choose? Being worried and upset, or being at the feet of Jesus and listening to him? What Martha was doing was fine, but it was not the best choice.
Last night I watched this scene from The Chosen series. It was great! Jesus showed great compassion for his friend Martha. He did not shame her, but was giving her wisdom and instruction.
Too often the good is the enemy of the best. The best choice was for her to sit at the feet of Jesus and not worry. This is a good reminder for all of us.
When I wake up each morning, I know what is in front of me to do. I also want to know what is happening in the world. So, do I begin the day jumping into the things I have to do?
Do I turn on the news and find out how the world is doing? Or do I sit at the feet of Jesus and listen to him before I start the day. If I sit at his feet, I know I will be less worried and upset.
I can begin my day focused on Jesus and inviting him into my day. This discipline keeps me in the right temperament to face what is before me.
When we develop the discipline of coming to Jesus first thing in the morning, there is a new rhythm created in our daily schedule that allows the Spirit to eliminate worry and anger from our lives.
We realize that God is sovereign and in control of the day. Our response comes out of our relationship with Jesus and not our own flesh and weakness. Choose the best over the good!
