Are You Listening?

Are You Listening?

Being a follower of Jesus Christ connects us to the source of life who is the Holy Spirit of God. Jesus’ words are spiritual in that they lead us into the life of the Spirit.

As I shared last Sunday, Jesus fulfills the Law and the Prophets. He is the sum total of God’s revelation. It is now through Christ that we enter into the abundant life of the Kingdom of God.

In order to enter this life we must surrender control and by faith rely on his words to direct us. He is the only teacher or rabbi that can lead us into the life of the kingdom.

One of the greatest challenges for me is giving up control to Jesus! Over the years he has taught me through life’s experiences that surrender is better than being in charge of my own destiny.

Giving Jesus control of my life does not mean that I am not proactive or passive. It simply means that I approach my life looking to his words to shape my values and decisions.

As the Apostle Paul says, “ You are not your own; you have been bought with a price.” I Corinthians 6:19 & 20”. An essential part of discipleship is listening.

Every day we are confronted with decisions and value judgments. If we are in tune with God’s Spirit and Word, we will find the resource that can lead us into the life that Jesus promises us.

It may not be easy or what we like, but it will be best for us in the long run. Silence, solitude, prayer and listening to God’s Word is the only way that we can provide space to hear from Jesus.

May your practice produce life giving results!
