Ruthlessly Eliminate Hurry from our Life
A reminder from last Sunday’s message is that we must, “Ruthlessly eliminate hurry from our life” (Dallas Willard) if we are going to experience the life of the kingdom of God.
We must make every effort to enter God’s rest. (Hebrews 4:13). Eliminating hurry does not mean a lack of effort, but a lack of earning what in reality we cannot achieve on our own.
What we cannot achieve on our own is the fruit of God’s Spirit. (Galatians 5:22ff). The only way to becoming fruitful and flourishing in God’s kingdom is by slowly growing into the person of Jesus.
This takes time and effort being in God’s Word and meditating on it. This is part of the “rest” that will put us connected to God’s Spirit and give us the nourishment to produce.
The Psalmist in our Scripture of the Week likens this person of the Word as a tree. Trees grow and they grow slowly! If you observe a tree, you would think that it is static.
In reality it is always growing. If watered, it will continue to grow. It takes both time and the right season to produce fruit. This is true of the spiritual life in God’s kingdom.
If we do our part, God will do His! Our part is to place ourselves, or as Jesus says, abide in Him. In the weeks ahead I will be expanding on the way to practice abiding in Jesus.
For right now, I would lovingly encourage you to choose to not hurry! Slow down, eliminate hurry and begin finding a new rhythm in your day to day, week by week life. More soon to come.
